Sometimes I get from a local woodworker what for him is waste – pieces with knots, discolorations, scratches where they shouldn’t be. For him, it’s a flaw; for me, it’s a beginning. That’s how I received this fragment of ash – with a beautiful, striking knot and natural discoloration that immediately caught the eye. Instead of turning it on a lathe, I started sanding – layer by layer, slowly, carefully. The ash revealed itself shyly – from lighter tones into deeper, almost golden ones, crossed with lines as if someone had drawn them by hand.
These “flaws” turned out to be its greatest strength, and the knot became the heart of the object – adding character, depth, and story. Inside, there’s a hidden glass tube, so you can place in it a single flower or a few dried stems. It’s a vase that pretends to be nothing – it simply shows that beauty can be found where others see only defects.
Dimensions: 17,5cm x 15,5cm x 5cm
All cracks and imperfections visible on the vases are their unique feature, characteristic of the natural material that is wood.
